Australian
council For Educational Research is an independent educational
research organisation established in 1930. With offices in
Melbourne, Sydney, Dubai, Delhi and the United Kingdom ACER is
able to provide services to the education community in Australia
and, increasingly, internationally. The mission of ACER is to
create and disseminate research-based knowledge and tools that can
be used to improve learning. ACER undertakes a wide range of
research and development and provides services and materials in
support of educational policy-making and improved professional
practice. ACER has seven research and
development programs: Assessment and Reporting, Early
Childhood Education, Learning Processes and Contexts, National and
International Surveys, System and School Testing, Teaching and
Leadership and Transitions and Economics of Education. ACER has a
staff about 200.
ACER works
collaboratively with a range of institutions for different
projects. These include State, Territory and Commonwealth
Departments of Education and Training, Boards of Study,
non-government education authorities, and higher education
institutions.ACER
is able to provides consultancy services to international
clients. In recent years training programs in educational
assessment and evaluation have been provided for participants from
Fiji, Indonesia, Malaysia, Maldives, Laos, Cambodia, Bhutan, Papua
New Guinea, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Singapore and Oceania.
ACER is a member of the International Association for the
Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA), and the Australian
Consortium for Social and Political Research Incorporated (ASCPRI).
It is an Affiliated Centre for the Asia-Pacific Programme of
Educational Innovation for Development (APEID) and has worked with
the OECD, AusAID, UNESCO and World Bank on international projects.
